Canada's U-17s finished atop of Group D in the CONCACAF U-17 Championship after drawing Honduras, 0-0, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, on Saturday.
Canada are now just a win away from earning their first trip to the U-17 World Cup in 16 years after opening the CONCACAF tournament with an 8-0 thrashing of Barbados.
Head coach Sean Flemming had his team play Honduras with high pressure, forcing turnovers and dominating the midfield. Canada outshot their Central American opponents 12-6, tallying 10 of those efforts in the first half. Their best chance came early in the second half but Chris Nanco shot wide left.
Goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau kept Honduras off the scoresheet in the 80th minute with an athletic save from Carlos Andrade. The Montreal Impact academy standout finished the game with three crucial saves.
Canada will play either Trinidad & Tobago, Guatemala or hosts Jamaica in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday (the opponent will be decided later Saturday). The winner of that match will qualify for the U-17 World Cup, which will be hosted by Mexico in June.
"If we end up playing Jamaica, you're going to have probably a great crowd which would be exciting for the boys if it does happen," Flemming told the Canadian Press
