League continues preparation for 2011 Season
The North American Soccer League (NASL) proudly hosted its inaugural combine this past weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The invitation only event which began Friday February, 4th and ended Sunday February 6th featured 72 elite players from around the globe.
Each of the eight NASL teams sent representatives to the event, which also attracted Major League Soccer coaches and scouts. Several of the players who participated in the combine have strong club pedigrees and have played at a high level abroad or for their national teams. Many other players are beginning their professional careers after standout college careers in the United States.
The combine featured six matches over the three days between four evenly divided teams. Several of the most outstanding players from the event will be invited to the training camps of NASL teams.
“This combine provided us with an excellent opportunity to evaluate high level professional players and to keep networking to find potential standouts that could help our team in the upcoming season,” said Carolina RailHawks Head Coach Martin Rennie.
NSC Minnesota Stars Head Coach Manny Lagos added " The level of soccer in this country continues to grow and that was certainly reflected by the level of play this weekend. Operationally all of the coaches were very impressed with facilities as well as how smoothly it was run."
