Chiumiento and Hassli make MLS Team of the Week

VANCOUVER, BC - After two outstanding performances, Major League Soccer (MLS) announced today that midfielder Davide Chiumiento and striker Eric Hassli have been named to the league's 'Team of the Week'.
The former Swiss Super League standouts made their MLS debuts in grand fashion by leading Whitecaps FC to a memorable 4-2 victory over Canadian arch-rivals Toronto FC at a sold-out Empire Field. Chiumiento set up a pair of goals, while Hassli scored twice.

The duo combined to make history when Hassli - the club’s first Designated Player - struck home the first MLS goal in franchise history after a fine cross in from Chiumiento.

Chiumiento also engineered the team’s second goal of the match, making a darting run up field before playing a beautiful through ball to Terry Dunfield to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Hassli then put the game out of reach in the 72nd minute when he raced down the field to finish off a feed from Wes Knight.

Joining Hassli as the week’s best forwards are Colorado Rapids striker Omar Cummings and Sporting Kansas City forward Omar Bravo, while Real Salt Lake’s Kyle Beckerman, New York Red Bulls' Teemu Tainio, and Los Angeles Galaxy's Juninho join Chiumiento on the list of selected midfielders. FC Dallas’ Zach Lloyd, Seattle Soundrs FC’s Jeff Parke, and Philadelphia Union’s Danny Califf round out the defence, while Real Salt Lake’s Nick Rimando was named the team's goalkeeper.

Whitecaps FC's next match is their first-ever away game in MLS, as they travel to Chester, Pennsylvania, to take on Eastern Conference side Philadelphia Union at PPL Park on Saturday, March 26. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. PT and is live on Rogers Sportsnet One, TEAM 1410 radio, and teamradio.ca. Fans can also watch Saturday's game, and all of Whitecaps FC's MLS matches this season, on their mobile devices through Bell
