Whitecaps Training Notes - March 31st, 2011

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC only had training open for the media today for about 30-40 minutes. But some info gathered before we were politely asked to leave included that Jay DeMerit was wearing a track suit, running shoes and working out with the Whitecaps staff on the side, which included Michael Nanchoff and Shea Salinas.

At this point, Nanchoff are not playing this weekend, and DeMerit, depending on training tomorrow, is listed as 50/50. Salinas is also doubtful for minutes on Saturday. Earlier in the week Salinas told told me he is still feeling pain in the knee when kicking the ball.

Michael Boxall was missing from practice. He is sick and should be back tomorrow.

Davide Chiumiento is training with the squad, as is John Thorrington. No word on whether they are able to play on Saturday. It was suggested that Chiumiento will be able to see action on Wednesday against New England at the earliest.

Mouloud Akloul received a round of applause at the beginning of practice and pats on the back. Later that morning it was officially announced that he was signed to a Major League Soccer contract. He has been back training with the club and scrimmaging for the past few weeks but both Akloul and head coach Teitur Thordarson suggested it'll be a couple more weeks before he gets into a match. Which could either be a smoke screen or the truth. You can decide for yourselves.

Training returns on Friday at 10am. Sporting KC will hit the pitch at 1pm.
